Sports Update 23 February 2023

Tennis

We almost had a clean sweep this week! Our 3rd team came so close – they drew in matches won, but unfortunately lost overall by the number of games won in their matches, which came to a difference of only 2 games. Such a close result! Great effort 3rd team! Well done to everyone for another week of awesome results, and great tennis. Keep it up.

Tennis News:

Congratulations to Margaret Krieg, Grade 10, who has been selected to be a part of the CTT (Cape Town Tennis) Junior Provincial Training Squad. Only the Top 8 players in the province (u12/u14,u16), according to their ITF/TSA rankings, get chosen to participate in this Elite squad. This is a great achievement Maggie; well done! We are super proud of you.

Swimming

Rustenburg participated in a Combined Gala at Rhenish Girls’ High School in Stellenbosch last week Thursday 16 February. Rustenburg placed 4th but was only 5 points behind Herschel. The middle positions were separated by only a few points so it could have gone either way. Fantastic effort girls!

Touch Rugby

The 1st team continues to dominate their league, with another win under their belt, beating WGHS 1st team 7 tries to 1. Our second team did well against St Cyprian’s 1st team with an end result of one try each. It seems to have been a tough day on the field for our 3rd and 4th teams, both with close results, but unfortunate losses. Our 3rd team lost to Groote Schuur High School’s 1st team with only one try to their two tries. The 4th team played against Groote Schuur High School’s 2nd team and lost three tries to one. Keep your heads up and keep giving it your best!

Indoor Hockey

Week 3 of Indoor Hockey league fixtures saw us making the short trip to Westerford to play our lovely neighbours.

We are incredibly happy to witness the growth and development of our teams that saw us record a perfect set of results.

On 13 February, our First and Second teams travelled to St Cyprian’s School to play their make-up fixtures from the week prior. Some very exciting hockey was on display, and the First Team was unfortunate to see victory snatched out of their hands with less than 10 seconds on the clock.

The dreaded trip to Durbanville was up next for our Indoor Hockey teams. The close nature of most of the fixtures goes to show exactly how tightly contested these games were, and a special thank you to the parents and supporters who made the long trip to make sure our teams never felt too far away from home.

Water Polo

Dave Pitcairn Cup: 17-19 February

The Rustenburg Girls’ Water Polo U14A Team took part in the annual U14 Dave Pitcairn Cup, a prestigious event for the juniors as they competed against some of the top Water Polo schools in the country. With having only just arrived at RGHS this year, some of our juniors have only just picked up the sport and confidently took up the challenge this past weekend to make the most of the experience with their peers. Feeling confident about the challenge, and needing to rise to the occasion, our young team made the most of every match played.

We had a few excellent performances in the pool and a few that desired more work and concentration from our team, but many lessons were learnt. Overall, the team won 1 and lost 8.
