Sports Update 2 March 2022

Ms Retha Lekgothoane

We welcome Ms Retha Sewe Lekgothoane who joins Rustenburg as the new Director of Sport.  Previously in charge of Sport Development with the Bergriver Municipality in Piketberg, Ms Lekgothoane has moved to Cape Town with her husband and 4-year-old son.  We hope they will be very happy at Rustenburg.

Tennis

It has been an extremely windy week of tennis! Not only is the wind unpleasant, but it just makes tennis that much more difficult. Our tennis players stayed strong and never complained, even during training. From what I can tell from the results, they are starting to use the wind as an advantage, rather than a disadvantage. Our 2nd team had a BYE, but they have a double header this week against Jan van Riebeeck and Herschel’s 4th team. The 6th team had an unfortunate cancellation by St Cyprians as they could not fill a team in time. Just a couple of matches left to go before the end of the season. I can’t wait to see the final results of all the teams!

Swimming

Rustenburg participated in the PGSGU Gala on Tuesday 28th February. This event was held at Herschel, hosted by Herschel. Rustenburg struggled in most age groups, but the results do not show the amount of fight, hard work, and effort they gave in each race! We are proud of all of our swimmers!
