Inter House Gala

On Friday 10 February, we hosted our second annual Inter-House Gala with our new houses.

On a scorching hot Friday morning, the gala ran swimmingly, with lots of eager learners keen to put on a show and give their houses the best possible chance of winning the House trophy.

With more than just the House trophy on the line, the swimming pool area was filled with great enthusiasm and spirit as the houses battled it out for the Spirit Trophy. Thank you to the House Leaders for putting their swimming teams together and ensuring that each event had adequate participants for each race.

Unlike last year, there were no records broken in 2023. A huge thank you to all the staff involved in making this event a success.

Congratulations to the following swimmers for winning their respective age groups:

Best U14 Swimmer: Aaisha Hartley & Roxanne Reuter

Best U16 Swimmer: Isabella Webber

Best U19 Swimmer: Jenna Renecle

A special thanks to Mrs Kirsten Renecle for joining us on the day and for handing out the awards.

Tennis

With our third team having a BYE last week Friday 10 February, our first and second teams dominated their opponents with clean scoresheets!! After an epic Interhouse Gala in the morning, I’m sure the last thing they felt like doing was playing a tennis match! Our fourth to sixth teams played on Tuesday 14th February, ending with a mixture of results. It was a tough day of tennis, with the wind getting up 35 km/h, which I can tell you from experience, is not pleasant or easy at all! Keep up the good work girls!

Water Polo

Alex Road Festival

Rustenburg Girls’ Water polo U16A team, travelled to Gqeberha on 2 February to compete in the annual Alex Road Water Polo Festival. The festival hosted mainly U19 teams, which creates the opportunity for schools to increase their depth and enhance the competitiveness of the game. 13 players from Grades 9 and 10 made up the team to showcase their talent in what turned out to be a very competitive festival. Feeling confident about the challenge, and needing to rise to the occasion, our young team made the most of every match played.

We had a few excellent performances in the pool and a few that desired more work and concentration from our team, but many lessons were learnt. There were a few matches where we played some of our best polo that did not reflect in the scoreline; it was only the opposition’s skill level on the counterattack that proved to be far superior. Overall, the team won 4, lost 7 and drew 1.

Results U16A Alex Road Festival were as follows:

Reddam Night Series

The Reddam Night Series continued with our RGHS First Team Water Polo playing a double-header against Springfield and Herschel on Tuesday, 14 February. The competition this year has proven to be a huge challenge for our team as the fitness, skill and physicality of the game have been asking questions of our players. Our first team had lost both games; against Springfield, the team played well but fell short by 2 goals. In the second match, looking to redeem themselves from the league encounter against Herschel, the team did well to restrict them, putting up a brave fight in the pool, losing 11 goals to 1 in the end.

WP Water Polo League Matches Vs Rhenish – 8 February

Our next league match took place at Rhenish Girls High on Wednesday 8 February. The U14A, U16A and First Team travelled to the hot Stellenbosch, where they completed the second round of league fixtures. The U14s were outplayed by a talented group of players, while the U16s showed tremendous resilience and determination in the pool. The first team were brilliant for the first two quarters leading the game, but let it slip in the end with a few kick outs and a 5 meter. A brave and tenacious fight from every single player on the day.
