U16 Hockey, Netball & Football Champions Cup: 17-19 April
Events like the Champions Cup are a testament to Rustenburg Girls’ High School’s continued dedication to promoting sportsmanship, excellence and unity through sport. Beyond the competition, the tournament provided a valuable opportunity for schools to connect, collaborate and celebrate their shared passion for football.
We extend our sincere thanks to all participating schools, Rustenburg Girls’ High School staff and supporters who contributed to making this tournament a resounding success. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another memorable chapter in the Champions Cup legacy.
Please see below the highlights of the weekend and the results.
Champions Cup Football
Hosting the Football Champions Cup for the third time was a proud and momentous occasion for Rustenburg Girls’ High School. This year, we welcomed the Hellenic Academy, based in Zimbabwe. This means that the event is starting to introduce an overseas audience, which is great for partnership building between schools across the country.
With 13 schools participating, including both the Rustenburg Girls’ High School 1st and 2nd teams, the tournament was a true showcase of talent, determination and spirited rivalry. Despite heavy rain and strong winds causing matches to be stopped on Friday, the teams returned on Saturday ready to compete and demonstrate their skill and resilience. Over the course of three action-packed days, teams gave their all, each striving to be crowned Champions Cup winners. The high standard of competition and commitment displayed by the players created an electrifying atmosphere and many memorable matches.
On Sunday, the semi-finals could not be completed due to persistent heavy rain, which caused the fields to become waterlogged and unsafe for play. Although this prevented the tournament from reaching its final conclusion, it did not take away from the quality of the event or the excitement surrounding the remaining fixtures. These matches will be played on an arranged date, and there will still be an opportunity to crown the Champions Cup winners.
The schools still in contention for the title are Wynberg Girls’ High School, St Cyprian’s High School, Wise Up and Springfield Convent School 1st Team.
We look forward to welcoming schools back next year as the tournament continues to grow into one of the leading football events on the school sports calendar.

Champions Cup Hockey
The 2026 Champions Cup hockey tournament was a great success. Despite difficult weather conditions, teams continued to return to the astro, and all matches were completed, with only a small disruption on Friday when two matches were moved to Saturday due to rain.
Rustenburg had 2 teams playing in the festival, and both did extremely well. The Invitational side managed wins over both Reddam Constantia and Parel Vallei on their journey to finishing third in their pool behind the A team and Paarl Girls. The A team showed their quality early on, beating Fish Hoek 5-0 in a rain-drenched first game before going through the rest of the tournament undefeated. Well done to all the schools who participated in this tournament on some really good, competitive hockey in some difficult conditions.
The competition remained intense throughout the weekend, with pool positions only being decided in the final pool match on Saturday. Paarl Girls’ High School scored a dramatic late goal to secure their place in the semi-finals, adding to the excitement of the tournament.
Well done to all the schools that participated and contributed to such competitive and high-quality hockey under challenging conditions. Congratulations to the Rustenburg Girls’ High School U16A Team, who were crowned Champions Cup 2026 winners.

Champions Cup Netball
With all the excitement of hosting our 10th Champions Cup, Rustenburg Girls’ High entered two teams in each age group, represented over three days of intense competitive Netball
With 12 teams participating, our U/15 team dominated their first match vs Springfield, who did not take lightly to a fearsome first half by leading the match well ahead of time. Our u/16 team was no different, even tho placed at different venues on Day 1, the team spirit was evident throughout.
Many hours of pure tactic, skill and determination were produced by an average of 120 athletes in one venue for Days 2 & 3. With top teams making their way through, setting the tone with strong defensive performances, our u/16 team did not seem to have any problem keeping up and dominated a 13-9 win against Reddam Constantia. A roaring sea of spectators, matching the roaring sounds of rain, all added to the atmosphere of what competitive Netball is all about.
The sportsmanship amongst all teams was evident. We would like to thank all teams that played a vital role in making our 10th Champions Cup a memorable one.
Well done to every player involved. Congratulations to Paarl Girls, who were crowned Netball Champions 2026!

Competing as a 15-year-old, Caitlin delivered a series of strong performances across multiple events. Her standout result came in the 400m Individual Medley, where she finished fourth, narrowly missing a podium position by just 0.06 seconds.
She also placed sixth in the 200m Individual Medley, 11th in the 800m Freestyle and 14th in the 400m Freestyle. Well done Caitlin, we’re so proud of you.
