Sports Update 20 August 2026

Rhenish Derby

The Rhenish Derby was a wonderful celebration of school sport, camaraderie, and the spirit of competition. Our football teams had the opportunity to take on Rhenish Girls’ High School in what was an eagerly anticipated fixture and a fantastic occasion for both schools.

Although the results did not go our way on the day, with both of our teams recording losses, the matches provided valuable opportunities for our players to test themselves, gain experience, and continue developing as a team. The players showed commitment, determination, and a willingness to compete right until the final whistle.

Beyond the results, the Derby was a reminder of what school sport is truly about. The fixture created an exciting atmosphere, strengthened the relationship between the two schools, and allowed our learners to enjoy the occasion and represent Rustenburg Girls’ High School with pride.

We are incredibly proud of the attitude shown by our footballers. Every match brings lessons, and these results will motivate the teams to continue working hard, learn from the experience, and build towards their next fixtures.

Special congratulations to all the players and coaches for their dedication and sportsmanship. While the scoreboard may not have reflected the outcome we hoped for, the pride, effort, and team spirit displayed by our footballers certainly made the Rhenish Derby a memorable occasion.

Well done, girls — keep working, keep believing, and keep representing Rustenburg with pride!

Hockey

This weekend, Rustenburg faced the tough challenge of taking on one of the strongest hockey schools in the country: Rhenish. Our teams showed tremendous determination and fought hard throughout their matches. We are incredibly proud of the effort, commitment and character displayed by all our players.

Special congratulations go to Amy Penney (Grade 10), who reached the incredible milestone of representing the Rustenburg U19A team for the 100th time. To achieve such a feat at such a young age is a remarkable accomplishment and a wonderful reflection of her dedication to Rustenburg hockey.

Congratulations, Amy, on an outstanding achievement!

Squash

Congratulations to Genevieve Lang (Grade 9) on an impressive performance at the South African Squash Nationals this past weekend, held on the all-glass court at Makers Landing at the V&A Waterfront.

Genevieve successfully maintained her seeding to finish 6th overall, an excellent achievement at national level.

One of the highlights of her tournament came on Saturday in her match against Shannon Render. Genevieve led 2–1 in games and found herself 5–10 down in the fourth game. Showing remarkable composure and fighting spirit, she saved six game balls before winning the game 12–10 and securing an impressive 3–1 victory.

Congratulations on an outstanding performance and on representing Rustenburg Girls’ High School with such determination and resilience. We are incredibly proud of her achievement!

Cross Country

The third term has been a busy and exciting season for Cross Country, with races taking place every Wednesday at various venues. As we near the end of our season, our athletes have continued to excel, showing great commitment, determination and consistency throughout the term.

We are incredibly proud of our Rustenburg Girls athletes, with all our runners placing within the Top 30 at the Cape Metro Championships, held on 15 August 2026.

Special congratulations go to Ella Gardner, who achieved an exceptional 2nd-place finish and has qualified to compete at the Provincial Championships on 29 August 2026.

We are extremely proud of Ella’s achievement and know that she will represent Rustenburg Girls with great pride. We wish her all the very best as she takes on this exciting next challenge!
