Netball

The Rustenburg Girls’ Netball teams traveled to St. Cyprians on Thursday 18 May to play against the central Cape Town team. Our fixture was greeted with some gale-force winds which had quite an impact on the activities of the afternoon. It turned out to be quite a cold and uncomfortable experience, however, the spirits remained high and the learners took to the court and made the most of it.

St Cyprians competed against all ten of our Netball teams. Three teams had won their games, well done to the U14C’s, U19B’s and the U16B&C’s (mixed team played against SCS U15C). The U15A’s had a tough game, and walked away with a draw. Results from the matches are as follows:

The next round of league fixtures took place at Wynberg Girls High on Monday 22 May. A stunning afternoon in Wynberg saw our nine teams turn up to play in the second league match of the season.

Eight of the nine teams that competed walked away with victories, and only one team had taken a loss. Our U15A’s and U14C’s on a run of form, have been exceptional the last 2 matches, and continued to dominate their opposition. They beat Wynberg 14-8 and 12-9, respectively. Again, our U19B’s were incredible with their performance and beat WGHS 18-11. All results vs Wynberg Girls High are as follows:

Hockey

Our hockey teams faced the task of playing their first away fixtures of the season, with an interesting trip to local rivals Springfield. Unfortunately, the flu continues its rounds, and as a result, Springfield requested a postponement of the U19A match, which will be played at a time to be confirmed.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for our U19A team, as we welcomed one of the top-ranked teams in the country, Paarl Gim on Saturday 20 May. Though it was a tough encounter, our U19A team battled valiantly, in what was a very competitive match, despite defeat.

There were sparkling performances from our U16B and U19B teams which saw them walk away with convincing victories.

Unfortunately, Springfield was only able to field 6 teams, so we were unable to accommodate some of our teams, but there will definitely be matches for them in the future.

Please see results vs Springfield and Paarl Gim below.
