END OF TERM DATES:

Emails will be sent out regarding end-of-term dates to each sporting code, but here is a document for your record/reading in the meantime: End of Term 1 Dates

Tennis

End of Term 1 dates:

  • Team practice – Monday, 13 March
  • Social and Grade 8 squad – Wednesday, 22 March

It is the last round of matches for the season coming up this week. All matches will be completed on, or by Friday, 10 March. It has been an extremely successful tennis league season for all of our teams. I feel like they need to be challenged more, so I will be looking into moving all teams up into the next possible league, to ensure that they get the maximum benefits from their match experiences. This will mean our First Team will get to take part in the Super League. Well done to all the tennis players for a wonderful season thus far. Go out with a bang and enjoy your last matches of the season!

Swimming

Rustenburg participated in an individual gala at Bishops on Thursday, 23 February. All the scores were close, but Rustenburg managed to pull off a fantastic win with 102 points! One week later and our swimmers are back at it, this time swimming in a combined gala, at Rondebosch Boys’ High School on Thursday 2 March. Rustenburg fell just 20 points short from 1st place winners, Herschel. Two fantastic results, amazing work swimmers!

Good luck to our swimmers who will be taking part in the A-League gala this Thursday at Herschel at 15:30. This is the biggest gala event of the year! Go and support the team if you can!

Indoor Hockey

The Indoor Hockey matches have been coming thick and fast for our teams. This hasn’t proven to be a deterrence to the performances that we are seeing on the court. With one more game left to be played in the season, all of our teams can be massively proud of how they have conducted themselves throughout the season, and we look forward to a positive end to the season.

The final Indoor Hockey matches will be played on 8 March 2023.

Please see the results from our fixtures against Springfield, Pinelands and Bergvliet.

Matches against Herschel are always fiercely contested, and last week was no different. Unfortunately for our first team, they were on the losing end of an Indoor Hockey League match for the first time since 2019, bringing to an end what has been a fantastic unbeaten run.

The First Team will be competing in the annual Peninsula Girls’ School Games Union (PGSGU) Tournament on 16 March at St Cyprian’s School. Your support would be greatly appreciated. This will also be the final Indoor Hockey matches for our matric players.

Congratulations to our First Team coach, Ms Sasha Sivertsen on her selection to represent Western Province at the National Inter-Provincial Tournament. Their team finished Fourth in the tournament – a wonderful achievement.

End-of-Season and Outdoor Hockey Trials

The final training sessions for the season will be held on 9 March 2023, giving the teams an opportunity to have a final send-off and thank their coaches and teammates for the wonderful season they have enjoyed. The First Team will continue with their training sessions in preparation for the PGSGU Tournament on 16 March.

At this stage of the season, Indoor and Outdoor Hockey tend to merge, with pre-season tournaments starting as early as 10 March. As a result, a number of trials have already been held. Teams have been selected for the U14A, U16A and U19A pre-season festivals and tournaments.

The dates for the trials for the other teams are below.

  • U14 B/C Trials – 24 March (13h30-15h30)
  • U16 B/C/D Trials – 17 March (13h45-16h00)
  • U19B/C Trials – 22 March (15h30-17h00)

WP WATER POLO LEAGUE MATCHES VS ST. CYPRIANS – 3 MARCH & 7 MARCH

Rustenburg Girls’ Water polo U14A and U16A played their final league match of the season against St. Cyprians on Friday, 3 March. Looking to end off the season with a win, the U14 A’s had a tough match against the St. Cyprians U14 A’s losing 2 goals to 8, while the U16 A’s recorded a win over their opposition 10 goals to 2.

Our RGHS first team played the St. Cyprians first team on Tuesday, 7 March to complete their season and ended off with a win. A tough season in the league this year for our Water Polo teams, with our biggest competitors being Herschel and Reddam House Constantia both in our pool of teams. A valiant effort nevertheless by our teams and we are incredibly proud of them for the growth and determination maintained over the summer. Thanks to all our coaches, Oliver, Teagan and Sophie for their efforts too.

Old Petrians Tournament, Johannesburg 23 – 26 FEBRUARY

The Rustenburg Girls’ Water Polo First team, travelled to Johannesburg on 23 February to compete in the 18th Annual Old Petrians Water Polo Tournament, hosted by St. Peter’s College. The tournament hosted 3 sports, namely Water Polo, Basketball and Cricket where some of the top schools competed for the top honours in their respective sports. Rustenburg went into the tournament as underdogs but looked to make an impression, with many of the players making their tournament debuts. The team, though having given their all, fell short of the goal for the tournament and only managed to finish in 23rd place overall. However, they maintained their brilliant status as the most well-respected unit and incredible ambassadors of the school, by winning the Guy Pinker Floating Trophy (the Fair Play Award). The tournament is highly competitive, with the best teams in the country all contesting to be the best. Our young team had a tough experience having played against some top opposition; many lessons were learnt, and many friendships were made, but most importantly they gave everything out there in the pool and put in every effort to make the most of this experience.

Well done to all our learners for what they have achieved in this tournament and for the amount of character and tenacity shown each game – we are very proud of you.

Surf Lifesaving

Over the course of the weekend, Ellen Hodgkinson and Imani Magotsi took part in the Western Cape Surf Lifesaving Championships which takes place once a year. This was an extremely challenging weekend made more difficult with the spicey weather. Both days were gruelling in their own ways.

With all that said, the results from the competition are as follows:

  • Ironwoman – Ellen (4th) Imani (8th)
  • Run swim run – Imani (7th)
  • Surf swim – Imani (8th)
  • Single surfski – Ellen (3rd🥉
  • Double surfski – Ellen (7th)
  • Surfski relay – Ellen (3rd🥉)
  • Individual board – Ellen (2nd in semi, 5th in final) Imani (4th in semi, 7th in final)
  • Board relay – Ellen (4th)
  • Taplin relay – Ellen (1st🥇) Imani (DNF)
  • Flags – Ellen (9th)
  • Individual sprint – Ellen (7th)
  • Sprint relay – Ellen (3rd in semi, 6th in final)

To sum up, both Ellen and Imani were medal achieving, weather effected, sunburnt and tired, but nevertheless had an extremely fun competition! Well done to both lifesavers. What great achievements. Rustenburg is proud of you both!
