Sports Update 13 October 2022

Welcome back to the start of Term 4 and the beginning of a new Summer season. Sport will start as per the Term 4 Sports programme on Monday 17 October.

Term 4 Sports Programme

Sports trials for the selection of teams for Indoor Hockey, Touch Rugby and Water Polo are taking place this week. Tennis challenge matches are also happening this week. We hope to be able to announce these teams by this Friday.

With regards to Water Polo – please do check emails as we attempt to finalise a training venue. All queries to vanderwesthuizeng@rghs.org.za.

Dancing

Rachel Pelser (Grade 10) and Giselle Hesse (Grade 9) travelled to Rustenburg in Gauteng from 30 September to 9 October to compete in the South African Championships for Dancing. Both qualified for the SA team with 3 gold medals, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. This then allows these learners to compete in World Championship in Los Angeles next year. Congratulations, we are extremely proud of these achievements and wish you well with your training.

Rachel Jonker (Grade 12) competed in a national competition this past holiday and placed first receiving the gold medal for 2 of her groups and silver for her third group dance. Congratulations, Rachel.

Hannah October (Grade 8) and her partner competed in the National Championships for the Federation of Dance Sport at the Sunningdale Sports Complex, in Blouberg the past weekend.

The pair won the Junior Latin Championship section. Congratulations, Hannah.

Rhythmic Gymnastics

Lucy Walker (Grade 9) had the following results at the SA Gym Games – Rhythmic gymnastics level 10 U15

  • Hoop/Ball category: 2nd (silver medal)
  • Clubs: 1st (gold medal)
  • Ribbon: 2nd (silver medal)
  • Overall: 2nd (silver medal)

Horse Riding

Trinity Simmons (Grade 10) competed in the National Schools Horse Riding competition. She did extremely well, placing first in all three of her disciplines. Congratulations, Trinity.
