Rustenburg Girls’ High School’s inspiring Human Rights Day assembly highlights women’s rights

Rustenburg Girls’ High School commemorated Human Rights Day with a powerful assembly on Friday, March 20, placing a strong focus on women’s rights.

According to the school’s head of history, Claire Paine, the programme began with pupils presenting global perspectives and sharing 10 sobering facts about the current state of women’s rights worldwide.

“They then paid tribute to historic and contemporary South African women, continuing the fight for equality,” she said. Another group addressed societal double standards and the gender gap in professional sports, which was followed by a moving protest poem written by the school’s very own Nabilah Mowzer.

The assembly ended on a high note with the entire Grade 9 group performing a spirited rendition of  Brave, a song by pop artist Sara Bareilles.
