Tennis

PGSGU Tennis

What initially presented as a temporary setback due to extreme weather conditions turned into a cool, albeit windy, afternoon as Rustenburg proudly hosted four schools for this year’s PGSGU Tennis Championship.

Talented players from Springfield Convent, St Cyprian’s High School, and Herschel Girls’ School filled the courts in impressive numbers, creating a highly competitive and spirited environment. The standard of tennis on display was exceptional, with each school showcasing skill, determination, and sportsmanship as they competed against the very best.

The event not only provided valuable match experience but also fostered a strong sense of camaraderie and mutual respect among the participating schools, making it a memorable and worthwhile occasion for all involved.

Football

The RGHS Football Team participated in the Springfield Festival from 13 – 15 March, hosted at Springfield Convent School, where they had an excellent opportunity to gain valuable match experience against strong opposition.

Throughout the festival, the team displayed great determination, resilience, and a positive attitude on the field. The matches provided a platform for combinations to develop, new players to step up, and for the team to begin establishing their identity and style of play for the season ahead.

In addition to the on-field performances, the festival environment encouraged team cohesion, sportsmanship, and growth, all of which are essential as the squad continues to build.

Overall, the team delivered a commendable performance, and the festival proved to be a highly valuable and worthwhile experience as they continue to build momentum for the season.

Hockey

A first team squad of 19 learners competed in the Springfield Festival over the past weekend. They played with determination and pride, making the festival a massive success. The team started on Friday with a surprise 0-1 loss to Wynberg and a narrow 0-1 loss to St Cyprian’s. After a good night’s rest and some reflection, the team lost 0-1 to Paarl Gim, who are currently ranked first in South Africa. A 1-0 win over La Rochelle and a 0-0 draw with Parel Vallei were also on the table on Saturday, as well as a last-minute, 0-1 loss to Herschel. The team would come back on Sunday to draw 0-0 with Paarl Girls and beat Springfield 2-0 in their final game.

It was a very competitive weekend of hockey, with many lessons and positive moments.

A massive congratulations to Ashley Henwood and Ella Gardner, who both reached their 50 Caps milestone for the First Team.

Good luck to the U14 Girls who play at the U14 Salt Festival this coming weekend.

Netball

This past weekend’s festivities were held at the Springfield Festival, where our U19A Training Squad participated. With eager spirits and determination, our first game took place on Friday afternoon against Reddam Constantia, which was a really exciting battle, ending 15 – 18 to Reddam. With our muscles being warmed up after game 1, we entered our second game with even more determination vs Springfield and won 24-7. Through trial and error, and fortunately, no injuries, our girls were back for a full day Saturday, which we kicked off with a glorious win vs WGHS 11-15 to RGHS.
The second game of the day was tough and physically challenging as the morning breeze started to dampen, resulting in a 26 – 14 loss vs Herschel.

The third match of the day vs Springfield resulted in a 25-9 loss, with yet another defeat thereafter – 24-11 vs Curro Somerset West, but we did not let that get us down, instead we rose to the occasion, got our head back in the game and ended off our Tournament on an exceptionally high note vs St Cyprians 25-9 to RGHS.

Trial Dates

  • Thursday, 19 March: U/15 Netball Team Selection & Tennis Team Selection (4th, 5th & 6th Team)
  • Friday, 20 March 2026: U/16 Netball Team Selection

Climbing

A special congratulations to Camille Myer (Grade 9) on an outstanding achievement this past weekend. Camille placed 4th nationally in the Youth World Climbing Championship qualifiers – an exceptional result, particularly at her age.

This accomplishment is a testament to Camille’s dedication, talent, and hard work. We are incredibly proud of her achievement on the national stage and celebrate her success as part of the RGHS community.

Cycling

Cara Pearce (Grade 8) completed her 4th full Cape Town Cycle Tour this year, but her first on her own bike, completing 109 km. Cara was 4th in her category of riders under the 16-year age group. She also took a tumble near the start and had to really show some resilience to make it to the end.

Cara also competed in the Western Cape Mountain Biking Event Number 1 on the weekend. She competed in the Under 14 girls category and finished 6th.

Well done, Cara, this is a phenomenal achievement! Here’s to many more happy kilometres ahead.
