Finding Our Voices: Standing Together Against GBVF

Creating a safer future begins with courageous conversations — and standing together.

In response to the national priority surrounding Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), the RCL invited Dr Neziswa Titi to engage with our learners in an important conversation about violence, safety, rights and the power of young people’s voices.

A transdisciplinary scholar-activist, academic and researcher in UCT’s African Feminist Studies Department, Dr Titi brings extensive experience in African psychologies, child sexual violence, trauma, children’s rights and mental health. Her work is grounded in a commitment to ensuring that young people are heard, supported and empowered to become advocates for change.

The conversation provided our learners with an opportunity to reflect, ask questions and engage with a difficult but vital issue in a safe and supportive space. It reinforced an important message: our young women have the right to speak, to be heard, to know their rights and to help shape the communities in which they live.

Dr Titi’s work in youth advocacy, parliamentary engagement, trauma research and child protection reflects the kind of leadership that inspires us at Rustenburg Girls’ High School — leadership rooted in courage, compassion, knowledge and action.

As a school committed to developing young women who will make a meaningful difference in the world, we believe that creating spaces for honest dialogue is an important part of preparing our learners to become confident voices and courageous agents of change.

We extend our sincere thanks to Dr Neziswa Titi for sharing her knowledge, insight and passion with our school, and to our RCL for recognising the importance of giving young women a voice in conversations that matter.

At RGHS we believe that when young women find their voices, they have the power to help change the world.
