Somerset College Stayers Tournament

On Saturday, 25 October and Sunday, 26 October 2025, our U19A Water Polo Team participated in the Somerset College Stayers Tournament in Somerset West.

The team’s campaign began with a narrow 3–5 loss to Springfield, prompting some quick reflection and adjustment from newly appointed coach Rachel King and her players. Their response was outstanding. The team bounced back with renewed determination, delivering a series of strong performances. The highlight of Day 1 was a commanding 11–1 victory over Rhenish, with goals scored by Amelia Hugo (1), Jessica Gray (3), Isabelle Smuts (1), Olivia Figaji (1), Jorja Turner (1), Baylee Jardine (1), Jessica Munro (1), Lily Hardy (1), and Lucy Midlane (1).

On Day 2, Rustenburg maintained their momentum, defeating the Herschel 2nd Team to advance to the playoffs. A highly anticipated semi-final rematch against St Cyprian’s followed – a team that had edged Rustenburg 4–2 earlier in the week at the PGSGU Tournament. Determined to turn the tables, our team fought hard in a nail-biting encounter, ultimately clinching a 7–6 victory in the final minutes.

The final saw Rustenburg once again face Springfield, the side that had handed them their opening loss. As the saying goes, tournaments are a tale of two halves; in this case, it was two days, and Rustenburg made the most of their second chance. The team came out firing, delivering a dominant performance to secure an emphatic 11–5 win and claim gold at the Somerset College Stayers Tournament.

Congratulations to the team on this remarkable achievement and to Jade Jarvis, who was deservedly named Defender of the Tournament.

Squash

Stayers Festival

From 24–26 October, the RGHS Squash team proudly represented the school at the 18th Annual Stayers Squash Festival, hosted across various venues. The team did not disappoint, displaying exceptional grit, focus, and precision throughout the tournament.

They went on to win all their matches against the five schools they faced, securing first place overall in the festival — a remarkable achievement and a truly proud moment for Rustenburg.

We are incredibly proud of the team; their hard work, commitment, and determination have clearly paid off!

Open Water Swimming

From 21–23 October 2026, our very own Caitlin Evans (Grade 9) proudly represented South Africa at the Africa Aquatics Junior & Senior Open Water Swimming Championships held in Mombasa, Kenya.

Caitlin competed in three events: the 5km (14–15 years age group), the 3km knockout sprint (open age group), and the relay. She described the first day’s conditions as particularly challenging, with large waves making it difficult to sight the buoys. Thankfully, the water was much calmer on the second day, allowing for smoother racing.

Caitlin delivered outstanding performances across all her events, placing 2nd in the 5km race, 4th overall in the 3km knockout sprint, and helping the South African Junior Relay Team secure a 1st place finish.

What an incredible achievement! We are extremely proud of Caitlin for her dedication, perseverance, and for continuing to fly the South African flag high.
