Sports Update 18 September 2025

Hockey

Past vs Present Hockey

The annual “Past vs Present” Hockey Day is scheduled for 17 October 2025. Over the last 5 years, this has been a feature on the hockey calendar, and this year promises to be the biggest one yet. Our past pupils will look to make a statement against our current U19A hockey team when the teams clash on the day.

It is also a day where we get to celebrate and send off our matric learners before they write their final exams.

Please join us for the festivities at the RGHS astro.

Match schedule:

  • 16h00 – RGHS Matrics vs Family and Coaches
  • 16h40 – RGHS U19B vs RGHS Old Girls 2nd team
  • 17h20 – RGHS U19A vs RGHS Old Girls 1st team

Water Polo

Mackenzie Cup 2025

From 12-14 September 2025, our combined U19 and U16 Water Polo Team travelled to Reddam Constantia for the annual Mackenzie Cup. This pre-season tournament is an excellent way to assess where our team stands at the start of the season. With the Matrics excluded, it was a fantastic opportunity for our younger players to step up and flex their muscles.

The team found themselves in a competitive Pool D, facing off against Reddam Invitational, Somerset College, St Cyprians, and Fish Hoek. They put in a solid performance, coming away with two wins and two losses, which set them up for the 13th/14th-place playoff.

Here are the results from the tournament:

Opponent Score  Result
Reddam Inv Loss 3-8
Somerset College Win 9-4
St Cyprians Loss4-9
Fish Hoek Win11-8
Final result: 14th Place

The playoff game on Sunday against Springfield was truly a highlight, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats until the very last 30 seconds. The team showed immense potential, with clutch shooting from Jessica Gray (Grade 10) and Olivia Figaji (Grade 11). On the defensive side, rising star Lucy Midlane (Grade 9) put on a masterful performance.

Interim coach Jay Rieback expressed his pride in the team’s effort and emphasised that this weekend has built a solid foundation for the squad to develop into strong competitors.

Finally, a massive thank you to all the peers and parents who came to support our team! Your energy in the stands was truly felt by the players.

Dancing

Congratulations to Hannah October (Grade 11) and her partner, Jayden, who recently competed in the WP Dance Sport Championships held at Oakdale. The talented duo danced their way to victory, winning the Youth Latin section against four other couples.

In addition to their outstanding performance, Hannah and Jayden were proudly presented with their WP Certificates in Dance Sport. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and look forward to sharing more of their journey.
