Squash

Top Schools Tournament

From 7-10 August, a team of Rustenburg learners proudly represented the school at the SA Top Schools Squash Tournament in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, marking the first time Rustenburg has qualified as the top Western Province team to compete in the tournament.

The team’s impressive performance earned them 5th place — the highest position achieved by a Western Province school in over a decade, surpassing the usual 7th and 8th place standings.

We are proud to congratulate our Rustenburg Squash A Team — Morgan Hunter (Captain), Tara Neville-Smyly, Leila King, Isla Barbour, Emma Hilton, and Genevieve Belle Lang.

We are immensely proud of this historic milestone for Rustenburg squash and look forward to building on this success in the years ahead.

Football

GO-CUP Tournament

Rustenburg was proudly represented at the 2025 GO-CUP Tournament hosted by the German International School on Saturday, 9 August. The school entered three teams, each comprising 10 players. Every team played with determination and passion, showcasing excellent skill and teamwork throughout the competition.

After three years of striving for the title and narrowly missing out in the 2023 finals against the host school DSK, Rustenburg’s perseverance paid off. This year, the team caused an upset and emerged victorious, bringing the GO-CUP trophy home for the first time. Congratulations to all the players for their hard work, dedication, and outstanding team spirit.

Final standings:

  • Rustenburg Team 3 finished 10th
  • Rustenburg Team 1 finished 4th
  • Rustenburg Team 2 finished 1st

Cross Country

Our dedicated Cross Country runners participated in the final league race of the year on Wednesday, 6 August, hosted by Wynberg Boys’ High School. It was a great finale to the season.

Congratulations to Eva Van der Westhuizen (Grade 8) for an outstanding performance, placing 1st in her age group. We also celebrate Sienna Malan (Grade 9), who secured an impressive 3rd place in her age group.

As the league season concludes, our focus now shifts to the upcoming Camp Metro Schools Championships. A strong group of 18 athletes has qualified to compete at the trials on Saturday, 16 August at CPUT Bellville. We wish them all the very best as they prepare to represent our school and aim for further success.

Netball

On Thursday, 7 August, our netball teams played a friendly against Camps Bay. There was a buzz of anticipation for these home games, as many of our players were eager to show what they’re made of and bounce back from the previous week’s performance against Parel Vallei.

A special commendation goes to our U17A team, who have put in incredible effort this season and finally saw that hard work pay off with a well-deserved victory! Their determination and teamwork were a true highlight of the day.

Our 1st team also put on an impressive display. Fueled by Racefood bars and sporting their stylish new Olympic court shoes, they stepped onto the court with a fresh burst of energy. The support from the crowd was fantastic, with lots of cheers keeping the team motivated throughout the match. While they were unfortunate to lose by a narrow margin, the team put up a good fight and showed incredible heart.

The results were as follows:

Hockey

Challenger’s Cup

The dozens of hours on and off the pitch, refining every possible thing to be as competitive as possible, all culminated in the U19A Hockey Team being recognised among South Africa’s elite hockey-playing schools.

Qualifying for the Challengers’ Cup for the third year running, the extremely young and talented team was rewarded for the sacrifices each member made to get the team into the top 25 teams in the country.

That wasn’t enough for Coach Olu and his charges, as they took on stiff competition, with all matches being closely matched up. The team finished in a commendable ninth place out of 12 competing teams, and with the curtain being drawn on the ranking season, will find themselves just outside the top 20 in 2025 – a great platform to build on with this young team. Congratulations to Jessica Gray (Grade 10) and Kate Naiker (Grade 11), who reached milestones of 50 and 100 caps for the U19A team, respectively.

Youth Atlantic Cup

Following the return of our superstar, talismanic Touch Rugby vice-captain, Amelie Visser, we caught up with her to get the real inside scoop on her take on the events at the Youth Atlantic Cup.

Here’s what she had to say: “The tournament was a great experience. I really got to know my team on a personal level, and as the captain, I got to lead, build close friendships and ultimately come home with a bronze medal. As someone who has played many provincial tournaments, I was shocked at the level of intensity that we played at, but it was a challenge that I accepted with open arms. It was an experience I’ll never forget.”

Well said, Amelie. Rustenburg is glad to have Amelie on our side and not as opposition for another year. Congratulations.

Dance

Over the weekend of 8–9 August, Hannah October (Grade 11) and her partner Jayden Lottering represented Rustenburg with distinction at League 3 in Bloemfontein. The talented pair delivered exceptional performances across multiple events, showcasing both their technical skill and their passion for dance.

They were crowned winners in the Latin Youth section and went on to claim victory in the Under-21 Latin section, a higher category they chose to enter. Adding to their success, they also won the Team Match and were named Overall Inter-provincial Champions for 2025.

We are incredibly proud of Hannah’s achievements and the dedication, discipline, and artistry she brings to her sport. Her success is a shining example of what can be accomplished through hard work and commitment.

She qualified to represent the Western Cape Rhythmic Gymnastics Team at the upcoming National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship in October. We congratulate her on this remarkable achievement and wish her all the best as she prepares to compete at the national level.
