Squash League Results

The second squash league match of Term 3 took place on Monday, 4 August, with RGHS A facing Rondebosch Boys’ High School and RGHS 2 going up against the Villages Invitation Team.

Both RGHS teams rose to the challenge, displaying impressive determination, skill, and teamwork throughout their matches. While the results didn’t go in our favour this time, the players left everything on the court and represented RGHS with pride.

We are incredibly proud of their efforts and commend them for their positive spirit and unwavering sportsmanship. We look forward to watching their continued growth and progress as the league season unfolds.

Hockey

Hockey vs Parel Vallei

For the first time in 2 years, the derby match against Parel Vallei was not interrupted by rain. We welcomed our neighbours from Somerset West on a chilly weekend. With 11 matches scheduled over the two days, this is the biggest fixture on the calendar, featuring every hockey player in the school.

A big congratulations must go to the coaching staff for admirably managing such a big fixture with aplomb.

Cross Country

On Wednesday, 30 July, our runners braved the elements at the Zonal Cross Country Trials hosted by Fish Hoek High School. Despite a biting chill and gale-force winds brought on by a cold front, the spirit of the event remained high. For safety reasons, organisers were compelled to adjust the course, but the enthusiasm never wavered.

The atmosphere was electric, with Fish Hoek students lining the course and finish line, cheering for all competitors in a true display of sportsmanship.

Netball

On Friday, 1 August, all our netball teams travelled to Parel Vallei for an exciting netball derby. It was a perfect sunny winter’s day. The afternoon began with a beautiful opening ceremony, where the spirit of the derby was highlighted: the focus was on building relationships and fostering sportsmanship rather than just winning or losing.

Our Rustenburg teams showed great heart throughout the day, giving their best against strong opposition. While it was a tough day in terms of results, the players remained positive and resolute, embracing the challenge as an opportunity to develop their skills and teamwork.

Touch Rugby

Our Touch Rugby superstar and vice-captain, Amelie Visser (Grade 11), represented the U18 TouchBoks in Ireland from 31 July to 3 August. Amelie was named as the co-captain of the team, a very prestigious recognition of her contribution to Touch Rugby, both at school and on the international stage. The team performed admirably, narrowly losing 8-9 to France in the semi-final. With a shot at the “dirty gold” against Wales, the South African team was excellent, rounding off an impressive showing at the tournament with a 7-6 win over the Welsh, earning them a 3rd place finish.

Congratulations, Amelie. We are extremely proud of you.

Water Polo

Olivia Figaji and Jade Jarvis (Grade 11s) have been drafted into the inaugural SA Waterpolo (SAWP) Winter Series Tournament, taking place in Gqeberha this month. Olivia Nejthardt (Grade 11) was also drafted but unfortunately is unable to participate due to injury. Congratulations!

Alumnae News

Congratulations to Jodie Blows (E’23), who was the captain of the indoor hockey first team in 2022 and 2023, on her selection to the senior national indoor hockey squad. This squad is made up of the top 32 indoor hockey players in South Africa.

Dance

Hannah October (Grade 11) and her dance partner delivered an outstanding performance at the SADTA Dance Competition held at Curro Brackenfell on 19 July, securing 1st place in the Youth Latin Champ sections.

We are also proud to share that the duo has been selected to represent the Western Cape at the upcoming 3rd League competition, taking place in Bloemfontein over the weekend of 8–9 August.

We wish them the very best as they continue to dance their way to success!
