Cross Country
On Wednesday, 23 July 2025, our Cross Country team laced up their takkies, after a well-deserved break, and hit the trails at Westerford High School’s Imhoff Sports Grounds. The sun was out, the wind stayed away, and the winter chill took a break – ideal conditions for a fast-paced race.
Sixteen of our runners represented the school, making an energetic return to the Cross Country season. A special acknowledgement goes to Eva Van Der Westhuizen (Grade 8), who powered through to claim 2nd place in her age group, and to Ella Gardner (Grade 9), who blazed past the competition to take 1st place.
Well done to all our runners for a strong start to Term 3. We’re looking forward to seeing more personal bests and podium finishes in the upcoming races!
Netball
From 16–19 July 2025, Bohlale Lesoetsa (Grade 10) proudly represented the U16 Cape Town High Schools Netball team at the Inter-District Netball Tournament held in Riversdale. The team showed great skill and teamwork during the pool stages, impressing spectators and opponents alike.
Though they narrowly missed out on gold after a tough semi-final defeat to Cape Winelands, their determination didn’t waver. In a thrilling bronze medal match against Eden, Bohlale and her teammates fought hard and secured a well-deserved victory, bringing home the bronze.
Congratulations to Bohlale for her outstanding performance and contribution to her team’s success.

Hockey vs Herschel
One of the standout fixtures of the year had come around again, and it was time for us to test ourselves against a team that has set the standard for so many years – Herschel. Always a difficult fixture for us, and it wasn’t about to be any different.
On a night that called for it, with burgers braaing, vuvuzelas blaring in the crowd and an atmosphere fit for the occasion, the U19A team match was a titanic clash.
After early pressure from Herschel had made life uncomfortable for the Rustenburg “Dawgz”, they quickly weathered the storm and settled into what would be their groove for the rest of the game. Two well-worked goals from Tatum Malherbe and Kate Naiker, respectively, gave The Dawgz a 2-0 half-time lead. With home support fully behind the team, they consolidated the third quarter, going into the last quarter with their lead intact. Despite a late goal in the last quarter from Herschel, Rustenburg ran out 2-1 victors on the night. A win that will stick long in the memory, breaking a six-year wait for a win over our rivals in pink. Congratulations to the team.

Water Polo

We are incredibly proud to share the recent achievements of Jade Jarvis (Grade 11), whose unwavering commitment to Water Polo continues to open exciting new doors.
Jade has been drafted into the inaugural SA Water Polo (SAWP) Winter Series Tournament, taking place in Gqeberha from 8 to 10 August 2025. This is a prestigious senior men’s and ladies’ tournament, and it is worth noting that very few school-going athletes have been invited to participate. Only four men’s and four ladies’ teams will compete, making this an exceptional opportunity for exposure at a national level.
Adding to this achievement, Jade has also been selected for the Elevate U19 team travelling to Barcelona, Spain, to participate in the Next Generation Cup in Sabadell from 12 to 23 September 2025. This elite tournament brings together top European teams, and the Elevate squad is primarily made up of first-year university students, making Jade’s inclusion all the more impressive.
These opportunities are a testament to Jade’s passion, discipline, and dedication. Her hard work is truly paying off, and while these achievements come with many sacrifices, they are also milestones that speak volumes about her character and commitment.
We celebrate Jade’s success and look forward to following her journey with pride.
Baylee Jardine (Grade 10) was selected for the Elevate U16 team that travelled to Greece during the June/July holidays. The trip combined competitive water polo matches against local Greek club teams with intensive skill sessions. Baylee enjoyed immersing herself in the culture, sampling traditional foods like baklava, and adapting to the warm Mediterranean climate. Most importantly, the journey offered valuable team bonding and opportunities to develop new Water Polo techniques.

Tennis
We are thrilled to share the recent success of Rylie Hodgskiss (Grade 10) and Emma Hilton (Grade 10), who represented the school at the TSA Winelands ProKennex Tournament held over the weekend. The three-day event featured some of the country’s top-seeded junior players, and our athletes rose to the occasion with confidence and determination.
In the singles division, Rylie earned an impressive 5th place, while Emma secured a solid 9th place, both showcasing exceptional skill and resilience on court.
The highlight of the tournament came in the doubles division, where the two teamed up and delivered a standout performance. Rylie and Emma claimed 1st place, pulling off a surprise upset against the top-seeded pairs — a remarkable achievement that left spectators and opponents alike impressed.
Congratulations to our tennis players for their outstanding results and for representing Rustenburg with excellence. We look forward to seeing more great things from them this season!

Touch Rugby vice-captain, Amelie Visser, who has been rewarded for her incredible performances both at school and provincial level with a national call-up, will be representing the SA U18 TouchBoks at the Youth Atlantic Cup in Ireland from 31 July – 3 August.
All the best to Amelie and her team. We know you will do us proud.
