Cross Country

SACS Cross Country Race

On Friday, 6 June, sixteen dedicated members of the Cross Country team participated in the league run hosted by SACS in Newlands. Despite the chilly conditions, spirits were high and determination stronger than ever as our runners tackled a slightly revised course, altered due to scheduled rugby fixtures.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms Behne and the supportive parents who lined the course with encouraging cheers, your presence continues to make a world of a difference for our runners. Special congratulations to Sienna Malan (Grade 9), who delivered an outstanding performance to secure 1st place in her age group.

With the winter break approaching, the team will take a well-deserved rest. Cross country competitions will resume next term, with the next meet scheduled for 23 July at Westerford High School. Until then, we encourage all our runners to keep active and stay race-ready.

Well done to all who participated!

Hockey

Hockey vs St Cyprian’s

On a bitterly cold Friday, we welcomed St Cyprian’s for what was scheduled to be the last league game of the first half of the season. While some games were played at Rustenburg, St Cyprian’s hosted the remainder of the games. SuperSport Schools ensured that all games were live-streamed at both venues, which meant all games being played at St Cyprian’s were on show at the Sports Pavilion.

While the fire kept the parents warm, and the delicious chicken burgers kept everyone fed, the action on the pitch was equally heating up, with some fiercely competitive games taking place between the two schools. The results tell a story of two schools, whose rivalry is intensifying and will continue to push each other to achieve the very best.

Hockey vs Stellenberg

The U19A team had a catch-up match to play against the 2024 league champions and had some pride on the line after a disappointing showing against St Cyprian’s the preceding Friday. It was always going to be a stern test to try and roll over one of the better teams in the league, but it is in times like these that the character of a team reveals itself.

After a cagey start, the nerves seemed to settle, and it was down to business for the Bugs. Having turned the pressure over, the team was quick to pounce, converting a set-piece into a goal to take the lead through Tara Neville-Smyly’s precise strike. The team continued to apply pressure on the league champions, and soon the pressure told after a brilliant move ended in a fine goal, converted by Kate Naiker, with the team going into the half-time break two goals to the good.

Stellenberg were never going to go away, and made use of the rare second-half chances they had to reel the game back and level the scores with little time to go in the fourth quarter. Both teams left it out there and tried to win the game right to the end, but the spoils were shared, and the game ended 2-2.

Term 3 Hockey

Hockey in term 3 will resume on 22 July, in preparation for matches against Herschel that are scheduled for 25 July.

Football

The Football teams recently participated in the Reddam Derby, with both the First and Second Teams taking on Reddam’s respective 1st and 2nd teams. After using the pre-season tournaments to refine their strategies and strengthen team cohesion, both squads approached the derby with confidence and focus.

Facing strong opposition, the teams rose to the challenge, displaying exceptional skill, resilience, and determination. Your hard work and commitment are evident in every match you play, and we are incredibly proud of your efforts.

In addition, the teams have completed their final rounds in the School’s Football League, once again delivering outstanding performances and continuing to impress.
