Cape Town High Schools Netball Playoffs
On Tuesday, 27 May, our U16A netball team competed in the Cape Town High Schools Netball (CTHSN) league playoffs. Having triumphed over every opponent in their league regular, their qualification for this crucial playoff game was a testament to their dominance throughout the season.
The playoff match pitted our U16A team against Herschel’s U16A team, another formidable force that had dominated their pool. The game began with a challenging start for Rustenburg, as Herschel’s attacking capabilities and flawless shooting combination gave them an 8-11 lead by halftime. However, our U16A squad remained resolute, determined to protect their unbeaten league record. The second half saw a resurgence from Rustenburg, with Caitlin Gerber and Retha Sello delivering brilliant passages of play that kept the team firmly in contention. Georgia Gibbon also deserves special mention for her rebounds and clinical intercepts, turning defense into attack. Despite drawing the second half 12-12, Herschel’s strong start ultimately secured them a narrow 20-23 victory.
Though the final result wasn’t a win, the U16A team’s journey throughout the netball season has been nothing short of inspiring. Their consistent high-level performance in the league is a clear indication of the significant development within Rustenburg netball. We are incredibly proud of this age group’s growth and look forward to even greater successes from them in the future.
