Sports Update 30 January 2025

Water Polo

The U19A Water Polo team kicked off their season with an impressive victory in the Night Series, hosted by Wynberg Girls’ High School. In their first match of the season on January 21st, they faced Bloemhof and emerged victorious with a resounding 11-5 win.

The team displayed exceptional teamwork and skill, with standout performances from several players. Jade Jarvis led the charge, scoring an impressive five goals, while Tatum Malherbe added two to the scoreboard. Other key contributors included Cara Gruber, Olivia Figaji, Jessica Gray, and Isabelle Smuts, each scoring one goal.

On 28 January, the team enjoyed another successful evening, this time against Wynberg Girls’ High School. Our team triumphed 5-1, with Jade Jarvis, Olivia Figaji, Olivia Nejthardt, and Tatum Malherbe featuring on the scoreboard.

Congratulations to all the players and coaching staff. We wish the U19A Water Polo team the best of luck as they prepare for their upcoming games!

Please come out to support the team as they play against Springfield on Tuesday, 4 February!

Tennis

Maggie Krieg (Grade 12) recently participated in the TSA Interprovincial Tournament held in Pretoria from 8-12 January 2025. As a member of the Western Cape Disas Team, Maggie competed alongside her teammates against some of the best talent from across the country. The team performed well throughout the tournament, securing 5th place out of 16 teams.

On Tuesday, January 28th, our first tennis team had an outstanding performance, defeating Herschel’s second team 12-0 in a dominant display. The third team also secured a strong win, beating St Cyprian’s fourth side 6-4. Unfortunately, our fourth team was unable to overcome St Cyprian’s fifth team but fought hard nonetheless. Overall, it was a day of mixed results, with impressive victories from the first and third teams!

Swimming

On Thursday, 2 January, our talented swimming team competed in the first swimming gala of the season at Herzlia High School. The team shined and finished 5th place out of 12 schools with 107 points.

The swimmers who represented RGHS displayed solid performances across a range of events. The team included Isabella Webber, Imani Magotsi, Ellen Hodgkinson, Jade Jarvis, Reese Edwards, Tamryn Van Aswegn, Aeshah Hendricks, Rebecca Nilsson, Daria Davids, Josephine Endres, and Sanaa Talip. Each member contributed to the overall success. We commend the team for their achievement and wish them all the best for their upcoming gala at Fish Hoek this week.

Indoor Hockey

As is the case with every year, the indoor hockey trials for grade 8s took place in the first week of term 1 – with the hurried preparation to start matches in week two.

With little preparation at the start of the year, our teams were able to equip themselves more than adequately against an array of opposition ranging from Milnerton High School, Pinelands High School, Fairmont High School, Wynberg Girls’ High School and Bergvliet High School.

While there were interruptions to the matches on the day, all teams were able to play their matches and produce some very good results.

Touch Rugby

Our touch rugby teams took to the field for the first time in 2025. Some bright young talent was on display for the first team, who made a bright start by beating Springfield 3-2. An up-and-down afternoon for the second team saw them record a resounding 6-0 win, which was followed by a 5-0 defeat, which they will look to turn around in their next fixture. The third team put on a strong display against Springfield’s second team, registering a 1-1 draw. The fourth team were not in a charitable mood, dispatching the Wynberg third team 5-0.

There are no touch rugby matches this weekend, due to the school carnival.
