U14A Rising Challenger’s Cup
The U19A team took part in the Rising Challenger’s Cup in Paarl. This tournament is reserved for teams ranked 13-25 in the country. Largely considered the underdogs of the tournament, the team entered the as the lowest-ranked but continued to hold their own against teams like Affies, who won the All Girls tournament, beating quality opposition such as Middelburg and Parel Vallei on their way to securing a semi-final spot. At this stage of the competition, RGHS was one of 3 unbeaten teams and the only one yet to concede a goal. Sadly, this changed in the semi-finals, when the team took on St Mary’s, who are currently ranked in the top 10 in South Africa. While the team dominated the game, the result did not go their way, losing 2-1 with 40 seconds left to play.
The team bounced back quickly as they took on Affies in the bronze medal match, winning the game 1-0 and finishing the tournament in 3rd place. This secured their place as one of the 15 top hockey-playing schools in South Africa.
