Sports Update 15 June 2023

Football

The Schools Soccer League continued on Wednesday, 7 June, with the Rustenburg 1st and 2nd teams playing against Westerford High School. Despite the cold, wet weather, Rustenburg was ready to face very strong competitors. The teams got on the football field and gave a nail-biting performance. The 1st team played at Westerford High School while the 2nd team played at home. The 1st team displayed spirit and tenacity, not taking any leads for granted in the spirit to win. Unfortunately, luck was not on their side, however, technique and performance were. They lost 1-0 to Westerford but they gained experience and built team spirit. The 2nd team was hungry for a win and took every chance they got to show that. Despite a few slips and falls, they rose every single time. This was to their advantage as they managed to win 3-1.

Both teams have played their best games and we are proud of them.

Hockey vs Curro Durbanville/Herschel/Springfield

As we close in on a well-deserved mid-season break, we welcomed Curro Durbanville to our shores on 9 June. Newly promoted to the Grand Challenge league, it was always going to be a fascinating encounter. Unfortunately, with the school still trying to grow hockey, they were only able to field three teams, namely U14A, U16A and U19A. This meant that some of our teams would not get an opportunity to play.

With Herschel also low on teams, we were able to play some games against them on Saturday morning.

The U19A team had a double-header, therefore we are playing their postponed fixture against Springfield on Monday 12 June. Remarkably we will be going into the break having already played 30 matches this season.
