Football

On Wednesday 3 August Pinelands High School came to play a match against our 1st Football Team. Our coaches tried out many new combinations and used the match as practice for our upcoming derby against Rhenish. The Pinelands team were way too strong for us on the day and ended up scoring 4 goals to 0. Well done to Pinelands.

Hockey

We are back into the swing of things in term 3, and we played our first fixtures of the term against Parel Vallei, who were wonderful hosts out in Somerset West. The U19A team also played a make-up fixture against Springfield on Monday 1 August. The rest of the fixtures against Springfield will be played later in term 3.

We are very proud of the results achieved against some very strong Parel Vallei teams.

REDDAM HOUSE CONSTANTIA LEAGUE MATCH 5

Rustenburg Girls’ Netball teams played against Reddam House Constantia on Thursday 28 July at Reddam House.

Eight Netball teams travelled to Reddam on Thursday afternoon, and it turned out to be a tough day at the office for our Netball teams. Rustenburg only managed to walk away with 2 victories, with our U14B’s and first team managing to pull off wins. The Reddam junior teams, particularly their U15As and U16A displayed some incredible talent and teamwork on the court. They are definitely going to be our toughest opponents in the next two years. Though our teams always put in a good effort on the court, the results did not uphold the performance and it was a disappointing day for us. This was not all doom and gloom as they were ready to pick themselves up for the next fixture to come, with only the desire to improve and continue to work hard on their minds.

Results vs Reddam House Constantia were as follows:

FISH HOEK HIGH LEAGUE MATCH 6

Rustenburg hosted Fish Hoek High in a make-up fixture on Tuesday 2 August, where all ten teams took to the court in an epic battle for top honours and redemption from the previous week’s performances.

Our Netball teams put on some incredible performances with great results to show for it. Much applause for the U16A and U16C teams who contested for every point and left it all out on the court, coming from behind to win their games.

Our first team were not so lucky on the day as they met their match with some immense physicality and skill and went down by just 3 points in the end.

Thursday 4 August

JAN VAN RIEBEECK LEAGUE MATCH 7

Rustenburg Girls’ Netball teams were hosted by Jan Van Riebeeck on Thursday 4 August, in the third last league fixture of the season. On a cold, but beautiful day for Netball out in Cape Town CBD, right under Table Mountain, we were welcomed to an awesome venue for some great Netball to come.

Our Netball teams were great against JVR, pulling off five victories out of our seven matches. Once again, our U16A’s have continued their run of form and hammered the opposition 21-6. Some more dominance from our U14B’s and our U16B’s as they showcased their teamwork and fitness ending with a very favourable score line. The U19B’s were short of players for the last 2 fixtures and credit has to be given to Kate Ferguson and Lauren Henderson (from the U16A teams) for stepping in and filling the void – they fitted in seamlessly to help the U19B’s win both fixtures. Further acknowledgement and credit to the U19B regular starters for setting the standard and leading the team to these wins too. The Netball culture is growing immensely and we are extremely proud of all our players.

Results vs Jan Van Riebeeck were as follows:

Individual Sport Achievements

Karate

On 30 July Eleanor Cruise (Grade 11) participated in a regional karate competition in Belville. She was put up against both junior and senior opponents (a 32-year-old black belt who is the reigning SA champion, a 40+-year-old brown belt and girls of her own age who have brown and black belts). After many fighting matches, some blood, lots of sweat and surprisingly not many tears, Eleanor received 4 gold medals and 2 silver medals. This is such exciting news and Eleanor’s future looks bright. Congratulations on these achievements.

Swimming

Jenna Renecle (Grade 11) swam in the Western Province Short Course Championships and the Cape Coastal Grand Prix during the holidays. She received two bronze medals for 50m breaststroke and 50m backstroke. Congratulations on these fabulous results.
