Sports News and Results 9 September 2021

Summer Sport starts on Monday 13 September. The RGHS Swimming pool is heated and will see its first splashes on Monday afternoon. The Tennis nets are up and awaiting the tennis players. The Touch Rugby fields are being marked and await our rugby players. Football and On-the-Move continue throughout the Summer months. Cross Country is replaced with the Running Club, so the campus will continue to be a very busy place in the afternoons.

Sign-up for Summer Sport closed on Tuesday 7 September @ 3 pm. If your daughter has missed the deadline and still wishes to participate in sport, please encourage her to visit us in the Sports Office.

Grade 8s and 9s are reminded that participating in an extra-mural session is compulsory. Should your daughter wish to be exempt for a medical reason please ask that she collects a sports exemption form from the Sports Office. Applications for an exemption from school sport is granted on a termly basis.

Cross Country

Our second race of the season took place on Wednesday 8 September. A group of runners from Springfield Convent came to Rustenburg to run a 3km route around our campus. On a challenging 2 x 1.5km course the first runner came home in a record time of 12:23. Congratulations to all 16 Rustenburg girls who participated.

Rustenburg had 6 runners in the top 10; Skye Micklethwaite (1st); Annie Malherbe (3rd); Kayla Ross (7th); Robyn Biccard (8th); Biancha Witbooi (9th) and Ella ten Brink (10th). The Rustenburg runners who ran last week all bettered their times this week. Congratulations to each and every one of you.

Football

On Tuesday 7 September, our Rustenburg Football players got to show off all their skills and fitness that they have been working on throughout the Winter season. We played 2 matches against St Cyprians on a glorious sunny day. Coaches Lungie and Ashraf have enjoyed working with the players and were excited about the performances. In the first match against St Cyprians U18A Rustenburg won 1-0. In the second match against St Cyprians U18B Rustenburg lost 0-1. Well done to all our players and coaches.

On Tuesday 14 September we will be playing matches against Reddam Constantia @ Rustenburg.

Massive thanks to Herschel and St Cyprian’s for allowing us to put these fixtures together.

On a warm Thursday afternoon, six teams competed, with half of the fixtures being played at RGHS and the other half at St Cyprian’s School. Both teams performed well and showcased some quality netball. It was a fantastic way to conclude the 2021 netball season.

Water Polo

It has been wonderful to welcome the players back into the pool for pre-season Water Polo. With an emphasis on conditioning and the refinement of technical skills, it has been great to see how well attended these sessions have been. We are excited to see what the 2021/2022 season has in store for RGHS Water Polo.
