Cross Country

Megan Phillipson and Laya Gersowsky (Grade 11s) represented Western Province in the Cape Metro Cross Country Team on Saturday 31 August. The event was hosted by WP Athletics at Hottentots Holland High School. The route was very flat and slightly shorter than the anticipated 4km. Both Megan and Laya ran their personal best times for the season. They really enjoyed finishing off their season, running much of the distance together, wearing the blue and white. Congratulations on an excellent season, Megan and Laya.

Hockey

PGSGU Hockey:

“The U14A Hockey Team remained unbeaten to place 2nd at the PGSGU inter-schools tournament at the Wynberg astro on Friday 30 August. The girls played some incredible hockey, beating Wynberg 2-0 with two field goals by Jodie Blows. They beat Springfield 1-0 (field goal by Saarah Magiet) and St Cyprians 2-0 (goals by Jodie Blows and Amber de Villiers). With a scoreless draw against Herschel, they won the trophy on a better goal average. This team has huge potential and I am excited to see what they do in the years to come.” PGSGU U14 Coach – Andi Bernstein.

“The 1st Hockey Team played some excellent hockey but did not score enough goals, and finished 4th this year. We beat Wynberg 1-0 with a great field goal from Josie Malherbe, (Grade 10), then lost 0-1 to both Herschel and Springfield whilst drawing 1-1 to St Cyprians with a penalty stroke successfully taken by Kelly Johnson (Grade 10).” 1st Team Coach – Andi Bernstein.

Modern Dancing

Skye Waters (Grade 8) participated in the Cape Town Modern Dance Eisteddfod which took place in Sea Point from 22 August until 1 September.

Skye was awarded Gold Diplomas for all three of her solo dances (Character Set, Straight Set and Own Choice) in the 13 – 14 years amateur category, and Gold Diplomas for her two Studio Group Dances. Congratulations on these outstanding results.

Lauren Young (Grade 10), Jaime McGown (Grade 10) and Kayla Burgess (Grade 12) represented Kristy Brown of The Dance Studio at the Cape Town Eisteddfod over the past two weeks.

Lauren was awarded a Diploma and danced again in the finals to be the overall section winner of the Pre-Amateur 15-16 Set Dance.  Jaime received honours for the same piece.

Kayla Burgess, in the middle of prelims and recovering from glandular fever, participated in a Quartet as well as another three group pieces with Lauren and Jaime.

The Quartet and all three groups made it to the finals, with two of them winning their sections.  These girls will dance again in two weeks’ time at the national Move Dance Competition.

Their Jazz group – “On the Outside”, has also been selected for the show, “Dancers love Dogs” at Artscape, as well as the Baxter Dance Festival in October. This kind of perfection requires commitment, passion and dedication. These results are absolutely incredible and we salute all three of you.
