UPDATE:

A-LEAGUE GALA – Wednesday 4 March @ RBHS. Limited tickets will be available from Monday 2 March @ R20.00 (Cash or Snapscan) from the Sports Office. The GALA starts at 16h00 and should be done by 18h00. Swimmers do not need tickets, however parents will need tickets.

Swimming

RGHS participated in a gala at Curro, Durbanville on Thursday 20 February. We placed second behind Herschel, out of 9 schools. Congratulations to our swimmers.

Rowing

On Saturday 22 February, a number of RGHS girls competed in the UCT Regatta which was held at Zeekoevlei.

Amy Basson (Grade 10) had this to say: “It was a fantastic regatta as we got the opportunity to compete with university crews as well as Alfred’s. As per usual, the girls did extremely well and made us very proud.”

Results:

  • U14 sculls: Robin Day (Grade 8) 1st and Hannah Murphy (Grade 8) 3rd
  • U14 double: Robin Day 1st and Hannah Murphy and Eryn Jacobs (Grade 8) 2nd
  • U14 quad: Robin Day, Hannah Murphy and Eryn Jacobs came 1st beating both SACS and Bishops.
  • U15 quad: Robin Day came 1st
  • U16 double: Amy Basson (Grade 10) and Alice Wannell (Grade 10) 1st (also beating the U16 Junior men’s double); Rachel Behne ( Grade 10) 2nd
  • U16 pair: Alice Wannell 2nd
  • U16 quad: Amy Basson and Alice Wannell 1st, Rachel Behne 2nd
  • U19 scull: Kirsten Mac Arthur (Grade 11) 2nd
  • U19 double: Kirsten Mac Arthur 1st to Stellenbosch
  • U19 pair: Amy Basson 2nd to UCT, but did beat another UCT boat
  • U19 quad: Kirsten Mac Arthur 1st
  • U19 four: Kirsten Mac Arthur 2nd to Stellenbosch 
  • U19 eight: Kirsten Mac Arthur 4th

We are looking forward to SA Schools Champs in Gauteng next weekend! (6-8 March)”.

Surf Lifesaving

Hannah Hillman (Grade 11) competed for Big Bay at the Western Cape Surf Lifesaving Championships this past weekend and did exceptionally well. She walked away with 10 medals with her best performance to date. She also competed up in the Senior ladies division as well as in the U17 ladies. She showed great teamwork with her fellow team mates too, competing in every single team event in the ocean. 

Her podium placings:

1st Tube rescue, 2nd Run swim run, 2nd board, 2nd single ski, 2nd surf swim, 3rd Board rescue, 3rd board relay, 3rd Ironwoman, 3rd taplin relay, 3rd ski relay.
