Alida van der Merwe (Grade 11) represented Western Province in the Cricket South Africa girls U19 national week. The tournament took place in Port Elizabeth from the 9-14 December 2017. The team won all 7 of their matches. Alida plays for Old Mutual cricket club. They won the T20 and 50 over finals last year. She opens the batting for Western Province and for her club. During the holiday she made the SA U19 B schools team (Fillies side). Congratulations on all of these excellent achievements!

We look forward to watching Alida play for the RGHS cricket team when we take on a team from the UK on Wednesday 14 February here at school.

It gives us great pleasure to announce that 2 of our matriculants of 2017 have been offered scholarships to attend BRYANT UNIVERSITY in Smithfield Rhode Island, USA and be members of the field hockey team at the University. We wish Casey Wheeler and Brittany Gouws all the very best as they become ‘freshmen’ in the USA this year.

All three RGHS teams played so well in our first game with very little preparation time. The 1st team won 1-0 In a fast, evenly contested match with both sides having scoring opportunities.

Goal scorer: Courtney Wheeler

Man of the match: Sharna Naidoo

The 2nd team won 2-1 in a match where Kiara Skors saved a penalty stroke!!  With such a young team, it was very encouraging to see the effort and enthusiasm with which they played, and they thoroughly deserved the win.

Goal scorers: Rachel Noyce and Josie Malherbe

Man of the Match: Kiara Skors

The 3rd team lost 2-3 with a last minute goal. Again, this is a team that consists of grade 9’s (and Kiara in goal) and they had not played together before. They played the full game without substitutes.

Goals scored by Emma Starke and Anke Van Jaaraveld (both playing their first match!)

Man of the match: Alexis Fry

Hannah Hillman (Grade 9) competed in the first Lifeguard Competition for 2018 held at Melkbosstrand on Saturday 20 January. The conditions were extremely tough, very hot conditions and strong winds.

Hannah did exceptionally well, placing 1st in Kneeboard; 2nd in Run swim run and 3rd in Surf Ski. Congratulations on these excellent results, Hannah. (Hannah pictured below).
