HOLIDAY NEWS/ RESULTS:

INDOOR HOCKEY

A number of RGHS girls played in the PSI Indoor Hockey tournament at the end of 2016. I was able to watch one of the matches in which Brittany Gouws (Gr 11 2016) played and was so impressed with the level of skill and the speed of the girls. Brittany and her team placed 4th in their tournament with Brittany scoring a most impressive 18 goals.

Georgia Dugmore (Gr 10 2016) represented the U18A West Coast Barracudas at the recent PSI National tournament in Cape Town.  She was asked to represent the U18A squad, while she is still an U16 (the extra speed of the senior tournament was a real learning experience).  This is the third year in a row that Georgia has represented the Barracudas at the National tournament.

Congratulations to Daniella Solkow (Gr 10) on being selected to represent South Africa at the 20th Maccabiah 2017 in Israel. WATER POLO

Words from the captain of the RGHS 1st water polo team – Aaliyah Meredith (Gr 12):

“On the 4 January the water polo girls started their pre-season training. The training consisted of two sessions per day, two hours in the morning and two hours on Muizenburg beach for conditioning in the afternoon.

Girls from all age groups attended these sessions.

On Sunday 8 January, we hiked up to Elephants Eye and swam in Silvermine dam afterwards – it was a lovely afternoon and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

The past week really helped build our fitness and there was a great amount of bonding between the seniors and juniors.

Rustenburg water polo 2017 is off to an incredible start!

Thank you to Mr Devon Card, Ms Goble and Mr André Williams for taking the sessions and making holiday training so much fun.”
