Sports News 12 August 2021

The cancellation of the Rhenish Derby weekend is disappointing for us all, however, this decision was made in the best interest of keeping us all safe.

Some good news for our Water Polo players is that Rustenburg will be offering sessions at Reddam Constantia for all RGHS learners who are interested in playing Water Polo this coming season. During the month of September, Ms Hlela will be coaching our learners on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7pm at Reddam. Do remember that these sessions are optional – should you have a Hockey Team commitment that clashes with these times, your Hockey session takes preference. The Water Polo sessions will start on Wednesday 1 September.

Western Province Water Polo Squad training has started. This information was shared with all players who attended practices in Term 1 this year. However, if you have not received information from our new Head of Water Polo, Ms Hlela, please email her requesting this information. (hlelap@rghs.org.za)

Remember to inform us of your daughter’s sporting achievements so that we can extend our congratulations to her. Also, you are encouraged to follow the RGHS Sports Department on our Instagram platform @RGHSSport

Swimming

We are very proud of Skye Micklethwaite (Grade 9) who has been awarded Western Cape Age-Group Swimming colours for the 2020-2021 season.

Tennis

Juliana Barrish (Grade 11) is to be congratulated on steadily improving her tennis and her ranking. Juliana traveled to the Czech Republic during the past holidays, where she played in two tournaments. Despite a short time to practice and to adjust to the clay courts, Juliana managed to get into the semi-finals in the second tournament. She gained invaluable experience and enjoyed the challenges.
