On Wednesday, 2 May the Rustenburg Music Department presented the annual Piano Festival in Charlie’s Hope.
Several pianist from neighbouring schools were invited to perform at the evening that celebrated composers such as Debussy, Bernstein, Grieg, Rachmaninov, and South African composer, Hubert du Plessis.
Two of Rustenburg’s own pupils, Kim Joy Damon and Ameryn Peters also participated at the event. The guest speaker for the evening was Stellenbosch University piano lecturer, Dr Mario Nell who presented piano masterclasses in the afternoon. Mario also presented a very informative session on the interpretation of Debussy’s piano music. Congratulations to Kelsey Brookes (Herschel) for winning the Judith Dernier piano prize.
