Music Notes 30 June 2017

Dear Music Parents

Here we are at the end of what has been an incredibly busy term, but also a term with several highlights. When I think back to all the new projects we embarked on this term such as the Picnic Concert, the Combined Musical Showcase with RGJS, the Lunchtime Concerts as well as established events such as the Piano Festival, Marimba Festival and the Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival, I am extremely proud of what has been achieved. Well done to all the girls.

The RGHS Jazz Band at the Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival

On Monday, 26 June we hosted an Open-Mic event. It was organised by the Music and Retro Societies. This was a wonderful opportunity for anyone to take to the stage and perform. The courage of the performers was incredible and the event was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. See the youtube video below of one of the performances.

We would also like to wish the following girls a safe trip as they venture to Grahamstown this holiday to attend the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival:

  • Tenille Cannon
  • Daniella Freitas
  • Taylor Hall
  • Jade Lawson
  • Ayla Macedo
  • Imke Mühr
  • Georgia New
  • Tumelo Nkgudi
  • Caroline Schreiber
  • Gina Wright

They will be accompanied by Mr Buitendag and Ms Stokes. We would also like to congratulate Jade Lawson, Tumelo Nkgudi, and Imke Mühr who progressed to the second round of the National Youth Festival Jazz Band Auditions.

Lastly, our Choral Collaboration with SACS and RBHS takes place on the 1st and 2nd of August at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Parow. Tickets are R100 and can be bought at the front office. Limited seating is available.

Have a wonderful holiday! Remember to always whistle a happy tune!
