Music Notes 3 February 2017

Dear Music Parents

Welcome to the first edition of our weekly newsletter – an initiative that aims to ensure better channels of communication between the Music Department and the music parent community.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the  Music class of 2016 on the exceptional results attained in the final NSC examinations with a Music average of 89.5%. Hannah Clayton was awarded the best music mark in the Western Cape, and Lauren Pienaar was placed fourth. This is a truly exceptional achievement. We would like to congratulate all of you, as well as Ms. Sole.

On Thursday our subject Music pupils visited the City Hall to attend a rehearsal by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Works by Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and Stravinsky, showcasing a variety of 20th century music styles and techniques made for a memorable and very educational experience.

Kindly take note of the Upcoming Events column at the bottom of the newsletter. Our choral highlight for the year is the Choral Collaboration with SACS and Rondebosch Boys’ High School. The main work featured will be Peter Louis van Dijk’s San Gloria. Our first Choral Collaboration Workshop with SACS and Rondebosch takes place this coming Sunday. All choir members and selected band girls are to attend.

Wishing you all a pleasant weekend. Encourage your daughters to practice consistently. Remember to always whistle a happy tune.
