Music Notes 26 April 2017

Dear Music Parents

I am delighted to report to you that our first ever Picnic Concert on Saturday was a great success. The feedback from staff, parents and pupils has been overwhelmingly positive. This will most definitely become an annual event and something that will grow from strength to strength. Many people ensured that this event ran smoothly and I am most appreciative of their assistance.

During the holidays the following girls were involved in the Franschhoek Chamber Music Festival:

  • Sarah Philander (Gr 8)
  • Kaitlin Downie (Gr 11)
  • Younsung Kim (Gr 9)
  • Jessica Mclachlan (Gr 10)
  • Mikaela van Otterlo (Gr 9)
  • Mia Salonen (Gr 10)
  • Mia Barashenkov (Gr 9)

The girls attended several workshops directed by professional performers and teachers, thereby gaining invaluable experience in ensemble playing.

Congratulations to Stephanie Keyser (Gr 12) and Kaitlin Downie (Gr 11) who were selected for the National Youth Orchestra. This is an exceptional achievement. We are very proud of you!

Last evening we had our second Choral Collaboration Rehearsal with SACS and RBHS at SACS. Everyone worked intensively on the San Gloria and the Gospel Hallelujah, both of which improved towards the end of the rehearsal.

I would like to quote Shakespeare:

“If music be the food of life, play on!” Have a wonderful long weekend!
