Music Notes 25 May 2017

Dear Music Parents

So much has happened in the last two weeks that it is hard to know where to begin. However, here we go:

On Thursday, 11 May the School Orchestra under the directorship of Mrs Herrendoerfer participated in the Sans Souci Facets competition. I managed to sit in on their rehearsal the previous Friday and was extremely excited to see how they would fare. After a shaky start, they really pulled it together nicely and received 88% for their performance. This also ensured that they were announced as winners of the School Orchestra section. Well done to our Orchestra and Mrs H.

On Tuesday, 16 May we hosted our first Combined Musical Showcase with the Junior School. The purpose of this event was to strengthen the relationship between the two departments, and also, for the girls to witness the musical talent displayed by their sister school. The evening included several performances by various ensembles and ended off with two combined items. The feedback from this event was overwhelmingly positive and the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. More pictures here…

On Wednesday, 17 May our Matrics took to the stage to present their ensemble programme during a Lunch Time Concert. They were absolutely superb. This Concert was well attended and received with much enthusiasm.

On Friday, 19 May some of our strings were involved in the Cape Town Eisteddfod. These were the results:

80%-84% = Honours

85%-89% = High Honours

90%+ = Diploma

  • RGHS String Ensemble – Diploma
  • Telemann Quartet – High Honours
  • Kaitlin Downie – High Honours
  • Jiyoon Jeon – High Honours
  • Stephanie Keyser – High Honours (x2)
  • Mia Barashenkov – Diploma, High Honours
  • Imke Mühr – Honours
  • Erica Whittal – Diploma
  • Sarah Philander – High Honours
  • Mikaela van Otterlo – Honours & High Honours

Well done to the teachers of these students. These are outstanding results.

Just a reminder about the Choral Collaboration Workshop on Thursday, 25 May at SACS from 18h30-21h30.

As you can see it has been a very busy time. However, with so many positive outcomes, who can complain?

All the best.
