Music Notes 24 March 2017

Dear Music Parents

Recently, we were honoured to host the Jazz Band from Milton Academy, USA. It was a wonderful experience and a highlight at the end of a busy term. The band performed various jazz styles, but it was especially the tribute to South African jazz music that was very well received.

The Music students also used this Assembly to pay tribute to Ms Maileen Jamey by doing a flash mob on the ABBA hit tune, Dancing Queen – a title that is most appropriate as Ms Jamey, as we all know, is a fantastic dancer.

Our fundraising committee under the guidance of Belinda Hatton, mother of Abbey, had their first fundraising opportunity last week running the tuckshop at the Interhouse plays. A special thanks to Belinda and her team, Renee Worthington-Smith, Debra Sampson, Nelson Barbosa and Rafiekah Jardien, for running this project with so much enthusiasm. It is very much appreciated. All funds generated by the fundraising committee this year will be used to buy new instruments.

Lastly, I would like to promote our Picnic Concert on Saturday, 22 April in the Main Quad. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy listening to the Wind Band, Orchestra, Marimba Band, Jazz Band, and guest artists at this event. Tickets are R30 per person from Dee Penny or R35 from Quicket. Parents will be notified via email when tickets become available.
