Rustenburg’s Art Department is very proud to announce that Karen Bosman (Grade 8), Tayla Swan and Manina Viljoen (Grade 9s) are winners in the annual Western Cape Education Department’s celebration of Visual Arts in the GET phase.
On Wednesday 4 September Rustenburg attended the District Prize Giving at the Iziko National Gallery Annexe. The winning artworks together with works by other Grade 8 and 9 RGHS learners and Metro Central Schools are on exhibition until the end of September. Our girls received trophies, certificates and generous Deckle Edge goodie bags in honour of their hard work and unique creative vision.
The theme for this year’s exhibition was Every picture tells a story: A celebration of our learners and their stories, made visible in art.
In keeping with the theme of Storytelling, a huge handmade book revealed each winner’s artist profile. These unique touches made the evening truly special. Curriculum advisor Betsie Strydom and her team must be thanked for all their hard work and creative efforts.
The final celebration and award ceremony will culminate at the provincial exhibition in October at the prestigious Zeitz Mocaa (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa).
Well done to Karen, Tayla and Manina. You have done Rustenburg proud.
