On the morning of Saturday the 4th of March, 15 members of the Earth Children Society, joined by a few parents as well as Ms Chambers and her family, set off bright and early to hike up Constantia Nek.
Eco-Leaders Caitlin Starke, Chloe Mallows (who are also part of a group of Rangers) and Nicola Baalbergen, confidently led to us all up some steep paths and through beautiful fynbos to De Villiers dam.
We all thoroughly enjoyed the trip as we had a chance to connect both with nature and with the chatty people around us. Although the trek was rather challenging at certain parts, it was well worth it. The highlight of the trip was the many beautiful plants, insects and a rather spectacular orb spider (pictured left).
We were also faced with the reality of Cape Town’s current water crisis when we came across the very low water levels at the De Villiers dam.
It was a very educational and calming experience and we are all looking forward to arranging another hike soon.
