It’s autumn, and last Friday’s civvies day (5 April 2019) definitely showcased it. Many learners wore warm outfits to ward off the chilly weather. To wear civvies, each learner is required to pay R10. The proceeds go to Vrygrond Community Reading Centre to assist with general upkeep. In the past these proceeds have also gone to their care-centre, a playroom for learners with cognitive disabilities, as well as the installation of Wi-Fi and new computers for learners to do their research which is still ongoing. The initiative was started by our former librarian, Mrs Peters, in 2008 and last year celebrated its 10th year. The media centre monitresses visit Vrygrond every term to spend time with the children. This initiative is admirable and well worth it!
