SGB Feeback - "Vision 2010 and beyond"
An inspiring workshop was held in February and we were encouraged by the attendance, the enthusiasm as well as the quality of ideas that were generated. The SGB has taken the feedback and developed Vision and Mission statements out of the feedback that was received. The purpose of a vision statement is to describe what we hope to achieve and the purpose of a mission statement is to describe who we are and for what purpose we exist. They read as follows:
Vision:
Rustenburg: a school of excellence where girls are leading fearlessly, exploring their unique potential confidently and serving the world compassionately
Mission:
Rustenburg High School for Girls provides a diverse supportive and enquiring learning environment that equips learners with the academic, service, sporting and cultural foundations required to excel in every sphere of life
In addition we have begun the process to address the following levers that the Vision 2010 workshop identified as critically important to achieving our vision.
- Internal and External Communication
- Use of Technology
- Widening our support particularly amongst the Old Girls
- Fundraising
- Pride in our school
- Human Investment
At our March SGB meeting we addressed a number of these levers.
We were presented with the first draft of the new website by Graeme Broster who has been driving this process. This was a key issue raised by parents and it was gratifying to see the swift and creative response to this issue. It is hoped that the new website will go live at the end of April.
Graeme Broster also informed us of the new developments in Information Technology (IT) at the school. We agreed as an SGB that we would need to provide considerably more resources to IT in the years to come if we are to maintain standards let alone move towards excellence in this field.
The SGB has also agreed that in response to the need expressed by the parents, a fundraising sub- committee will be established. A meeting of interested parents will take place at 18h30 on 23 April.
Two members of the Rustenburg Old Girls Union (ROGU) committee also attended the SGB meeting and we discussed how we can work together to breathe new life into ROGU. We have agreed to work closely with ROGU and assist them with technological, administrative, financial and facilitation support so as to add value to the work they are doing. We also agreed to look at ways to address the apathy (and sometimes the antipathy) that many Rustenburg Old Girls have towards ROGU.
