Rustenburg learner collects national award from the Minister of Basic Education
Nicola Cilliers, a Grade 11 learner at Rustenburg High School for Girls, was awarded second prize in the 2011 SADC (Southern African Development Community) Secondary Schools Essay Competition in July. She was flown to Pretoria to collect her prize from Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga.
In an effort to encourage youth participation in regional integration affairs, SADC has invited all secondary school learners in the region to take part in the competition. The topic for 2011 was: Some SADC Member States have made progress on the SADC 50:50 policy on representation and participation of women in political and decision making positions at all levels. What are the main challenges that slow down progress on this policy and what measures should be put in place to ensure that the policy is fully implemented by all Member States?
