RGHS girls fortunate to attend Cartooning Workshop
On Saturday 31 July 2010, five Rustenburg girls, Ruth Powrie (pictured with Zapiro), Xena Craig, Samantha Newdigate, Yu-Jean Lai and Amber Stodel were invited to attend a cartooning workshop at the National Galleries Annex. This incredible day was run by Jonathan Shapiro (the well-known Zapiro), Frances Hugh Dugmore and Rico (of Madam and Eve fame) and the creators of the ever popular soccer comic, Supa Strikers.
This was an amazing opportunity to learn from experienced and professional cartoonists, each with their own genre and style. There were about one hundred students from a range of different schools that benefited from the knowledge of these comic legends. We were given activities and tips on drawing such as how to draw action shots and foreshortening as well as lunch. We are looking forward to attending another workshop with Times cartoonist Chip.
