Release of 2011 School Magazine
The 2011 school magazine was issued to all learners of the school on 1 December.
The School Magazine Committee (including Ms Saranne Salmon, Marketing Manager; Ms Louise Alberyn, Sub-Editor; Ms Karin Evans, Proof-reader; Chloe Kruger, Pupil Editor) began work on the publication in January already after receiving direction from the School Governing Body and the School Management Team.
The intention this year was to produce a yearbook which showcases just how modern and ‘fresh’ Rustenburg is in the contemporary South Africa.
Inspiration came fast and furious with the release of the film version of John van der Ruit’s “Spud,” set in a South African high school, and singer Pink belting out what was one of the anthems for summer, “So if you’re too school for cool.” At the same time the Style Network advocated the “collegiate look,” a trendy approach to dressing inspired by high school uniforms.
We were fortunate to benefit from the expertise of three fashion industry professionals: photographer MS KRISTINA STOJILKOVIC, stylist MS DEBBIE-JEAN OLLEY, and Art Director, MR GAVIN MILLER. This team saw the initial inspiration bear fruit at an exciting photo shoot in the Drama Studio. Many Rustenburg girls learned from these seasoned experts just how tricky it is to pose properly for the camera in order to capture that ‘perfect shot.’
Sincere thanks must go to both MS PERDITA NORVAL and MS MEAGAN REES, Rustenburg Old Girls and now full-time members of the Academic Staff. These two ladies bravely revisited their schooldays when they dressed in uniforms supplied by the Bug’s Boutique and posed for the coverpage of the “Rustenburg Old Girls’ Union” section. Their efforts met with the delight of both schoolgirls and staff members alike. Ms Norval matriculated from Rustenburg in 1979, while Ms Rees matriculated from Rustenburg in 1999.
