House Plays 2010

What the five house play directors were able to achieve this year was quite outstanding, even though the time for working on the house plays was very limited because of the adjustments made to the school year to accommodate the World Cup. The directors and their assistants are to be congratulated on the way in which they were able to adapt to various trying conditions and for the way in which they inspired their teams to give of their best. The girls were fortunate to have five adjudicators this year; Luella Holland, an ex-Rustybug, and Tammy Carlson, who both have degrees in Drama from the University of Cape Town, and who are both studying with a view to becoming Drama teachers and our own teachers, Ms Lindsay Kalis, Ms Ingrid Weideman and Mr Riaan Vosloo.

The winners of the various awards were as follows:
Best Script: CAMBRIDGE. This was an original script, “Stages of Sleep”, written for the occasion by Mara Djeri.
Best Set Design: MICHIEL VOS. This was a collaborative effort by the entire cast.
Best Director: MICHIEL VOS. Anelisa Mangcu for her direction of “Master of Puppets”. She was very ably assisted with the direction by Lebo Mosia
Best Actress: Robyn Skead of CAMBRIDGE who showed remarkable maturity in the role of Lucy.
Best Supporting Actress: Lahja Newaka of INNES for her role as Phil in “A Not-So-Ordinary Moment”.

Best Overall Play: INNES

The play was directed by Elizabeth Ridgway. The script of this play, “A Not-So-Ordinary Moment”, was inspired by the Charles Dickens novel, “A Christmas Carol”, and was written by Amy-Leigh Muir, Alyssa Nygaard and Elizabeth Ridgway. The Innes play provided the highlight of the evening - the song, “Ordinary Moment”, written for the occasion by Elizabeth Ridgway and very beautifully sung by Amy Tanzer.

This play was exceptional in the way that a large cast was able to work together in a very short space of time to produce such a polished performance. These girls have set a very high standard for all involved in the house plays of 2011.
