Harmony Gold Mathematics Olympiad
The Second Round of the 2010 National Harmony Gold Mathematics Olympiad was written on 18 May. This is a very different difficulty level to Round One and only the very best (top 100 nationally) go through to the Third Round. It is also much harder to score a high percentage than in Round One as is seen by the ratings given to the most successful candidates.
Lauren Denny (Grade 9) is to be congratulated on reaching the Third Round in the Junior section (to be written on 8 September) once again, having reached it last year as a Grade 8.
Other candidates to achieve a rating of “Good”:
Juniors (“Good” means between 19% and 42%)
Grade 8: Ji Yoon Kim; Abigail Mallows and Anya Muhr
Grade 9: Alex Nel; Natalie Luyt and Haseena Solwa.
Seniors (“Good” means between 30% and 63%)
Grade 10: Yohan Chun; Ye Jin Hur and Hyun Joo Park.
Grade 11: Karen Schuster and Nicola Steinhaus.
Grade 12: Jennifer de Villiers; Firdaus Khan; Laurie Scarborough and Laura Skippers.
All the above achieved the honour of being placed in the top 103 in the Province.
