Eurasian Schools Debating Championship - UPDATED
Rustenburg is enormously proud of its Head Girl for 2011, Angeliki Carvounes, as well as the Head of Erinville Hostel, Cara Mazetti-Claasen. These two girls were chosen to attend the Eurasian Schools Debating Championship from 24 January to 4 February 2011 in Turkey. This competition is a prestigious international debating tournament and participation in the event presents a wonderful opportunity for speakers to develop their skills. The standard of debating at this tournament is expected to be very high, with some of the top debating countries in the world represented: these include Greece, Pakistan, Hong Kong, USA and Singapore. There are 60 teams in total, and the team from the Western Cape is the only South African representative.
Participation in the tournament marks a great achievement and a wonderful opportunity for the personal and intellectual development of Angeliki and Cara.
UPDATE:
The Western Province team did very well in Istanbul being placed third in the Eurasian tournament. Three of our debaters ranked in the top 10: Cara Mazetti-Claassen was ranked 9th , Colin from Westerford was ranked 7th or 8th and RGHS Headgirl, Angeliki Carvounes, was named the best speaker at the tournament.
