On the 9th November 2009 the Germans celebrated the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which spelled the end of the division of East and West Germany and played its part in the end of the Cold War and the fall of Communism. This year, on 3 October 2010, Germany will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the reunification of Germany. To mark this the German Federal Foreign Office has made available to schools offering German, a travelling poster exhibition “From Peaceful Revolution to Germany Unity”.
"The exhibition highlights the developments of the years 1989/1990. It looks back on the protests against the fraudulent GDR local elections in May, the mass exodus in summer and the major protests in autumn 1989, which brought the SED dictatorship to its knees. The posters refer to the self-democratisation of the GDR, the German-German solidarity and the setting of directions regarding foreign affairs until the recovery of German unity."
