The Further Education and Training Phase (FET)
The Grade 10 to 12 FET curriculum requires learners to take 7 subjects, made up as follows:
|
FOUR CORE SUBJECTS (compulsory):
THREE ELECTIVES, chosen from the other subjects offered by the school
|
Unlike most other schools, at Rustenburg almost any subject combination is possible, as electives are not grouped.
It is also possible, with the permission of the school and subject to selection criteria where applicable, for learners to take more than seven subjects. For example, Dramatic Arts (offered at Rustenburg after school hours) or Visual Arts or Design (at Frank Joubert Art and Design Centre).
For promotion purposes, learners must have a portfolio of evidence in all subjects taken. This is generally a record of all continuous assessment (CASS) activities done throughout the year.
In calculating a learner’s final mark in each subject, Continuous Assessment (CASS) counts 25% and Examinations 75%. The final Grade 12 Life Orientation mark, however, is based on CASS work only.
The school reports to parents on learner progress in all subjects each term. This is conveyed by giving both a percentage and the corresponding rating code, as shown below.
