RGHS Recorder Symposium
The 5th Recorder Symposium will be held on Saturday 13 March in Charlies Hope from 09:30-15:00. Various specialist presenters including Karin Maritz and Barbara Warner-Smith (Recorder specialists), Shirley Gie (Organ & Harpsichord specialist) and Dizu Plaatjies (African Music specialist) will be responsible for delivering interesting and varied topics relating to Recorder Building, Improvising, Reviewing recent Recordings with Dizu adding a bit of fusion, linking soft African instruments with the recorder. Two of our solo recorder players, Samantha Filby (pictured) and Alexandra Mould will be participating in the Masterclasses as will our Recorder Ensemble.
Samantha will play the difficult JS Bach Sonata in F, BWV 1035, Alexandra will play a new piece written by an Australian composer, Benjamin Thorn, `Chocolate Bulbul’ and the Ensemble will perform 3 of 7 Dances written by a German composer Han Ulrich Staeps who was born 100 years’ ago. An interesting mix. We hope to conclude the Symposium with some improvisation. That will be interesting indeed.
