Habitat for Humanity Cyclathon
Habitat for Humanity is a world-wide, non-profit, non-governmental organisation that is aimed at eliminating sub-standard housing in South Africa. The BRIC (Bishops and Rustenburg in Community) hopes to raise funds for this organisation as well as highlight the need for social awareness amongst young people. The main fundraiser is a 25-hour Cyclathon, to be held at the V&A Waterfront from the 4th to the 5th February 2011. There will be seven stationary bicycles on the stage of the waterfront Amphitheatre and cyclists will come from Rustenburg, Bishops, Westerford and a variety of schools in the area, the public, various celebrities and representatives from the businesses that sponsor the event. During the 25 hours, paper bricks will be sold for a minimum of R20 each and each hour all the bricks purchased will be entered into a raffle for various prizes.
Last year's event raised a total of R62,000 and we hope to exceed this amount in 2011.
