Bishops Play Festival
The annual Bishops Play Festival begins on 27 July. The festival is not only a showcase of Drama at some of Cape Town's top high schools, but is also a fundraising venture as all profits from the venture are donated to Marsh Memorial Homes.
The Matric Dramatic Arts learners of 2010 (Marija Djeri, Samantha Filby, Amy Grant, Noxolo Mafu, Anelisa Mangcu and Robyn Skead) will be performing an excerpt from their original, workshop production entitled REAR VIEW MIRROR on 28 and 29 July, at 19h00.
The girls have created their own script by cleverly interweaving and juxtaposing extracts pertaining to the theme "mirrors". Their conclusion is that most often it is not what we would like to see when we stare into the silvery shadows encased on our walls, and that often simple reflections do not reveal underlying intentions. The production incorporates various aspects relating to their chosen theme, including:
- The Legend of Narcissus
- "Mirror, Mirror, on the wall" from Snow White
- The poem "Mirror" by Sylvia Plath
- "Walking on Broken Glass", song lyrics by Annie Lennox
- Christine's monologue from "The Phantom of the Opera"
- "Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carroll
- "Man in the Mirror", song lyrics by Michael Jackson
Tickets cost R30 and can be purchased at the door of the Bishops Memorial Theatre.
